My Jewellery

I make my jewellery using fine silver, epoxy resin and sea glass. Below I have added a bit more information about the techniques I use. This will hopefully answer any questions you may have.

Fine Silver

My fine silver pieces are created using silver clay. Silver clay looks like clay used for sculpting. It can be moulded and shaped like sculpting clay. However, silver clay contains fine particles of 100% recycled pure silver mixed with a binder. When fired, the binder burns away leaving only the solid silver. I can do this in my kitchen with a blow torch! It is then known as fine silver and can be hallmarked with a 999.

Fine silver is 99.9% silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and is hallmarked with 925.

My jewellery is not currently hallmarked but I hope to do this in future.

Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is a clear liquid that dries solid when mixed with hardener. I use it as it allows me to encase leaves, petals, seeds, flowers and glitter as if they were in glass. Epoxy resin dries (or cures) completely clear and solid. Once solid the resin is non-toxic and is safe to wear.

I am currently testing a new bio-resin that is more environmentally friendly so watch this space!

Sea Glass

I love to use sea glass in my designs. The glass is collected from our local beaches by myself and my family when out with our dog.

These beautifully smooth gems are created by the sea washing pieces of glass over many years. The action of the glass washing against sand and rocks over a long period of time smooths away sharp edges, producing lovely tactile gems that are swept on to the beach by the tide.
